    • Anna’s surname is spelled (Schraque) on the marriage document.

One of the witnesses to the marriage was the bride’s cousin, Jean Hirgie, a 58-year-old farmer at Haute-Clocher. (Could be Jean Hirschy, born 1752 in Haute-Clocher, who married Anne Rouvenacht (sister of Barbe Rouvenacht?) .
The groom signed his name “Petter Rinckenberg” and the bride signed with an “x”, indicating she was illiterate. Catherine Kempt also signed with an “x”.

  • Notes
    • Katie was a sister of Anna, Peter’s brother John’s wife. Peter and Katie lived with her parents for a while and then moved to South Pekin, IL. Later, they moved to Slabtown where Peter built a house of logs hewn from trees which had grown on his farm. In 1882, the family moved to a farm near Gridley, IL.

Peter and son Gideon were early land owners southwest of Gridley, IL. Jerry Funk of Bloomington, IL is a descendent of Peter. One of Gideon Rinkenberger’s farms is still in Jerry’s family today.

After the 1860 census the family used the spelling “Rinkenberger.”
“The 1873 plat map of Montgomery shows P. Rinkenberger as the owner of 160 acres in the northwest corner of upper Section 11.” [1, 2, 9]
