EUREKA – Willis L. Bachman, 81, of Eureka, passed away at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday (Dec. 15, 2015) at Apostolic Christian Home in Eureka, where he was a resident.
He was born Oct. 27, 1934, in Metamora, a son of Harry and Bertha Garber Bachman. He married Phyllis Schrock on Oct. 14, 1955, in Washington. She died July 12, 2010.
Surviving are three children, Daniel (Rhonda) Bachman, Metamora; Karen (Eric) Nafziger, Hopedale; and Phillip (Kimberly) Bachman, Goodfield; one sister, Ethel (Loren) Zehr, Cape Coral, Fla.; six grandchildren; many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Bachman, and one nephew.
Willis dairy farmed with his father until his father’s retirement. He worked 11 years at Ulrich Manufacturing in Roanoke, and almost 48 years at McBride & Shoff/Metamora Industries as a purchasing agent.
He loved devoting much time to his children and grandchildren, and was frequently involved in their activities. Willis was an avid Cubs fan who enjoyed conversing with friends and family about his beloved team.
Willis was a member of Metamora Mennonite Church, where he served his Lord Jesus Christ faithfully as a Sunday school superintendent, elder and teacher. In recent years, he enjoyed attending Rock Creek Bible Church, where his son is pastor.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Rock Creek Bible Church, Congerville. Pastor Phil Bachman, Pastor Bob Hart and Pastor Jon Byler will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Rock Creek Bible Church. A private family burial will precede the service at Hickory Point Cemetery in Metamora. Argo-Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home, Eureka, is handling arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Peoria Rescue Mission, where he was a board member for many years.
