Mrs. Roth died Dec. 11, 2003, at her home in Sheridan.
She was born June 6, 1930, in Molalla, eldest of four daughters of Allen and Elizabeth Stutzman Schlabach. In the early 1930s, she moved with her family to Hubbard, where she attended elementary school. She then went to Western Mennonite High School as one of the first students to attend in its beginning year in Sheridan, and later at the campus about10 miles south of Dayton on Highway 221.
She met Sterling Leroy Roth at Western when he attended a six-week Bible course. They married Aug. 28, 1949, and began their home on a farm southeast of Albany. They moved in early 1955 with their three small children to Smith, Alberta, Canada, and lived there 3 1/2 years. Because of financial reverses and health issues, they returned to Oregon, living in the Albany area until 1969 when they moved to Hubbard. Sterling Roth pastored the Hopewell and Brownsville Mennonite churches.
In 1984, they moved to Sheridan and became involved in the Mennonite church there.
Her family said Mrs. Roth was a people person of great industry, who enjoyed visitation and entertaining in her home, gardening, cooking, tea parties and crafts. She loved being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and gave freely of herself to help others in need and those less fortunate. The family said her capacity for charity and compassion was exceeded only by her deep and sustaining faith in God.
She is survived by her husband of Sheridan; seven children, Allen Roth of Brooklyn, N.Y., Bruce Roth of Fort Shaw, Mont., JoAnn Roth and Melody Roth, both of Portland, Gaye Roth of Albuquerque, N.M., Wayne Roth of Choteau, Mont., and Loyal Roth of Sherwood; two sisters, Arvilla Lawson of Oregon and Judy McIntyre of Washington; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Janice.
Memorial contributions may be made to Followers of Jesus School and Christian Aid Ministries in care of Adamson's, 108 N.W. Lincoln St., Sheridan, OR 97378.
