Melvin E. "Hap" Zehr, 84, of Flanagan, died at 3 a.m. Saturday, Oct.17, 2009, at his residence.
A private graveside service will be held Tuesday at Waldo Township Cemetery, Gridley. There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Salem Church, Gridley, the Rev. Steve Estes officiating.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Monday, at Calvert and Froelich Memorial Home, Flanagan.
He was born Sept.24, 1925, in Waldo Township, the son of Steve and Inez (Ulrich) Zehr. He married Marcie Zehr April 4, 1948, at Hopedale. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Diane (Doug) Lehman, Irvine, Calif., and Jan Telcs, Seattle, Wash.; one brother, Richard (Lois) Zehr, Flanagan; one sister, Aldie (Pete) Springer, Fisher; four grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.
Hap was a member of Salem Church, Gridley.
He had worked at the Standard Oil Station in Flanagan for five years before driving a gas truck for BP Oil for more than 20 years.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Hap was a die-hard Cub fan and attended 13 spring trainings in Arizona and also a Cubs Fantasy Camp. [2]
