He married Marie Zehr in Pennsylvania on May 8, 1838.
In the 1840 US Census he was listed as "D. Housholder", the head of a family consisting of an adult male, adult female, and male under 5 years old)living in Louisville, Jefferson County Kentucky. The family relocated to Woodford County, Illinois in the mid-1840's.
