Urbana – Lucille Jane Sheppard Kirby, 99 years young, formerly of Fisher, peacefully passed away Friday, December 30, 2016 at the Champaign County Nursing Home, Urbana.
Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 11:30 Am Tuesday,
January 3, 2017 at the River Valley Church of Christ, Fisher, IL with a Celebration of Life service following. Minister Andy Baker will officiate with
Morgan Memorial Home, Savoy, in charge of services. Burial will be in Willowbrook Cemetery, Fisher.
Lucille was born August 1, 1917 in Fisher, to Nell and Lyman Whitaker. She married Russell Lyle Sheppard on September 21, 1941 in St. Charles, MO. Russell died April 15, 1983. She then married Donald Claude Kirby, a life-long friend, on July 28, 1988. Donald passed away July 8, 2002.
Survivors include son Jim (Joan) Sheppard of Urbana; Granddaughters Shelly (John) Whiteman of Fisher and Melissa (Will) Calkins of Longmont, CO; Grandsons Chad Mines of Fisher and Brian (Stacey) Scott of Tolono, great-granddaughter Madelyn Nelson of Fisher; great-grandsons Ty Whiteman of Fisher, Connor Whiteman of Hoopeston and Cade, Camrin and Charlie Scott of Tolono plus many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by daughter Mary Jane Mines of Fisher; sisters Velda Kattner, Gladys Larson, Dorothy Birkey and brothers Frances, Wayne, James and Robert.
Lucille was a homemaker and worked for the Dewey State Bank for many years. She was a member of the River Valley Church of Christ, AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary and Rebecca Lodge in Fisher.
The family is very appreciative to the Unit 1 nurses and staff at the Champaign County Nursing Home and Harbor Light Hospice for the care and love given to Lucille. Memorials may be made to River Valley Church of Christ, Fisher.
She was a truly a special Child of God who always showed compassion and love to everyone she knew. She loved life and people, especially family, and will be missed and remembered by many.
