FLANAGAN — Gerald E. “Jerry” Slagell, 90, of Flanagan, passed away at 7:15 a.m. Tuesday (Oct. 20, 2015) peacefully surrounded by his family at the Good Samaritan Home in Flanagan.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Petri Lutheran Church, Flanagan, with the Rev. Paul Lellelid officiating. Burial will follow at St. Petri Cemetery, Flanagan, with military rites by Flanagan American Legion. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Calvert-Johnson & Froelich Memorial Home, Flanagan, and one hour prior to the service Friday at the church. Memorials may be made to the church, Alzheimer’s Association or the Good Samaritan Home.
Jerry was born Feb. 14, 1925, in Flanagan, the son of Ray and Minnie Yordy Slagell. He married Mary Harris and then married Rosetta Weichman Knight on Jan. 2, 1981. She survives along with four children, Pam Smith, Naperville; Scott (Cindy) Knight, Flanagan; Doug Knight, Pontiac; and Tim (Michelle) Knight, Tomahawk, Wis.; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.
Jerry was a member of St. Petri Lutheran Church and a 50-year member of the Pontiac Elks Club. He owned and operated G.E. Slagell Construction Co. in Flanagan for more than 36 years. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a member of Flanagan American Legion Post 456. He enjoyed playing golf and cards. Jerry always had a smile and a sunny disposition and will be missed by all who knew him.
