      Floyd R. Litwiller, 89, of Hopedale, passed away at 8:34 a.m. Friday (Aug. 18, 2017) at Hopedale Nursing Home.
      He was born Sept. 22, 1927, in rural Delavan, to Christian C. and Emma Zehr Litwiller. He married Lona Deter on May 24, 1952, in Morrison.
      Surviving are his wife; three sons, Richard (Cynthia) Litwiller, Goshen, Ind.; Kenneth (Laura) Litwiller, Nairobi, Kenya; and Brian (Cynthia) Litwiller, rural Delavan; one daughter, Christina Litwiller, Salina, Kan.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; five sisters, Delora Birkey, Hopedale; Evelyn Good, Urbana; LaVerne (Richard) Petersen, Fort Wayne, Ind.; Ruth Mark, Goshen, Ind.; and Judith (Gary) Muzzy, Orlando, Fla.; brother-in-law, Bruce Burmeister, LaPorte, Ind.; and sister-in-law, Lois Deter, Sterling.

      He was preceded in death by one granddaughter; one infant sister; and two sisters, Carolyn Welch and Beverly Burmeister.
      Floyd graduated from Hopedale High School and took several Bible classes at Goshen College where he met Lona. The two of them served as missionaries in Puerto Rico for the first two years of their marriage. He then farmed in the Hopedale and Delavan area from 1955 to 2004. He was a member of Tazewell County Farm Bureau.
      Floyd was baptized at Hopedale Mennonite Church in 1941. He was a member of Midway Mennonite Church for 33 years before returning to Hopedale Mennonite. He was a member of Gideon’s International for over 30 years and served at Logan County Correctional Center Prison Ministry for over 19 years.

      His funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hopedale Mennonite Church. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be in Mennonite Cemetery, Hopedale. Davis-Oswald Funeral Home, Hopedale, is handling the arrangements.
      Memorials may be made to Gideon’s International.
