      FOOSLAND — Wayne C. Sommer, 84, Foosland, died at 10 p.m. Monday (July 23, 2012) at Heartland Health Care, Paxton.
      His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at East Bend Mennonite Church, Fisher, with the Rev. Michael Dean officiating. Private burial will be in East Bend Memorial Gardens, Fisher. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church. Lamb Funeral Home, Gibson City, is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to East Bend Mennonite Church, Goshen College or Gibson Area Hospital.

      Wayne was born March 25, 1928, in Foosland, a son of Nelson and Ella Kauffmann Sommer. He married Joanne Reber on Jan. 28, 1950, in Fisher. She survives in Foosland.
      Also surviving are two sons, Michael (Annette) Sommer, Foosland, and Brad (Kathy) Sommer, Fort Wayne, Ind.; four grandchildren, Kristin (James) Scott, Trent (Chrissy) Sommer, Sarah Sommer and Matthew Sommer; three great-grandchildren, Karynne Scott, Gabrielle Scott and Berlynn Sommer; two brothers, Willis Sommer, Gibson City, and Dean (Janice) Sommer, Foosland; and a sister, Maxine Collum, Alabaster, Ala. He was preceded in death by his parents.

      Wayne was a farmer all his life. He was an active member of East Bend Mennonite Church in Fisher. He enjoyed riding horses, giving sleigh rides, trail riding and providing carriage rides for weddings and parades.
