Alta was born March 17, 1914, in rural Fisher, Brown Township, where she lived her entire life. She was the daughter of J.A. and Fannie Schrock Heiser. She married Justus J. Detweiler on Sept. 17, 1939. He preceded her in death March 11, 1951. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Leslie and Willard Heiser, and two sisters, Mabel Teuscher and Edna Cender.

She is survived by a daughter, Justine and David Trout of Loda; a son, Dennis and Elizabeth Detweiler of Fort Worth, Texas; three especially dear nieces whom she raised as daughters, Kimberleigh and Mark Anders of Colorado; Kambra and Scott Francis of Fisher; and Krystal Shaw of California; grandchildren, Justus and Tiffany Detweiler of Fisher, and Sarah and Clint Vrona of Texas; three great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and special friend and helper, Joan Grider.

Alta was a founding member of the Gibson City Bible Church. All her life, Alta was a student of the Bible and a lover of hymns. She had an active concern for encouraging and praying for missionary families, both foreign and domestic, especially those whose focus is on children. In her earlier years she was a dedicated Sunday school teacher, Bible story teller and an AWANA teacher. It was very important to her that every child with whom she came in contact learned about Jesus.
