      ROANOKE — Marvin R. Yordy, 87, of Roanoke, passed away at 8:08 a.m. Monday (July 13, 2015) at Arba Care Center of Bloomington.
      He was born Nov. 21, 1927, in Roanoke, to Amos and Jessie Switzer Yordy. He married Margaret “Peggy” Yordy on Dec. 4, 1951, in Traer, Iowa. She survives.
      Also surviving are two daughters, Linda (Thomas) Dooly, Mulberry Grove, and Julie (Paul) Davis, Normal; two sons, Mark (Kelly) Yordy, Bloomington, and Peter Yordy, Roanoke; 12 grandchildren, Matthew (Brittany) Dooly, Sara (Owen) Bryant, Erin (Ramy) Moreland, Rachel (Ben) Miller, Michael Yordy, Jamey (Frank) Wesselhoff, Kristen Blankenship, David Blankenship, Joel Blankenship, Ryan Davis, Katelyn Davis and Sandra Yordy; nine great-grandchildren, Grace Dooly, Madelyn Dooly, Evelyn Moreland, Rory Moreland, Ryan Miller, Charlotte Miller, Brendan Elston, Dawson Elston and Molly Wesselhoff.
      He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Amos M. and Daniel Yordy; one daughter, Jessie Yordy; one grandson, Jesse Blankenship; one great-grandson, Landon Elston; one great-granddaughter, Faith Bryant.
      Marvin served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War where he obtained the rank of sergeant in the 6th Marines in the 2nd Marine Division. He was a member of the Roanoke American Legion Post 463.
      He worked at Caterpillar, retiring in 1982.
      He was a member of the Panther Creek Church of the Brethren. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) at Maple Lawn in Eureka.
      His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Knapp-Johnson-Harris Funeral Home in Roanoke. The Rev. Marty Waite will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Knapp-Johnson-Harris Funeral Home, Roanoke. Burial with full military rites will be in the Panther Creek Cemetery in rural Roanoke.
      In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Panther Creek Cemetery, rural Roanoke.
