FISHER — Robert W. Schroeder, 84, Fisher, died at 3 a.m. Wednesday (Feb. 29, 2012) at Carle Hospital, Urbana. A memorial to celebrate Bob’s life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at East Bend Mennonite Church, rural Fisher, with the Rev. Michael Dean officiating. Private burial will be at East Bend Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, we will be taking silent bids for the toys that Bob built, which will be on display at the memorial celebration. Proceeds will go to the building of the new children’s playground at East Bend. Lamb Funeral Home, Gibson City, is in charge of arrangements.
Robert was born at home in Ford County, a son of Alfred and Anna Klintworth Schroeder. He married Dorothy I. Cender on June 15, 1974. She died July 19, 1987.
Surviving are a sister, Virginia (Robert) Winterland, Colfax; a sister-in-law, Joan Cender, Fisher; a brother-in-law, Don Cender, the Philippines; two nephews; four nieces; four great-nephews; eight great-nieces; and 15 great-great-nephews and great-nieces.
Bob was a member of East Bend Mennonite Church, Fisher, and the Colfax American Legion. He retired from M&W Gear, Gibson City, where he was a welder. He volunteered at Ten Thousand Villages in Champaign. Bob enjoyed gardening and making scale-model tractors, trucks and other toys out of wood.
